In plain words
That is ‘educare’. Education is not something that comes merely from acquaintance with books. It comes with the feeling of your heart. You say ‘Satya’. Satya is not something written in a book. It must come from the tongue. It must come from within, with pure feeling. You say ‘happiness’. It is not something that comes from some object. Happiness is what comes from our own heart. So first of all we must purify our inner feeling.
Children! By coming here, all of you have learnt a great deal of fine learning. Teach the noble learning you have learnt here to your companions as well, and all of you live together happily, in harmony.
Together, in harmony, let us grow; together, in harmony, let us go about; together, in harmony, let us nourish the wisdom we have come to know; together, in harmony, without discord, let us live in friendship.
This is what you must chiefly learn.
Students! You are very intelligent indeed. I need not say it specially. Through the children who wrote the examinations in Delhi you have heard many good things. Smiles dance on their faces. Those are the children we must make friends with. Who is a ‘good friend’? He who keeps far from bad thoughts, bad words and bad deeds is the ‘good friend’. You must always conduct yourselves with good feelings, good words and good deeds. When you gain your education in this way, wherever you are, you will be an example to others.
