Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must give Prema for the sake of Prema. Today everyone in the world experiences worldly love. Taking love that is bound up with difference for true Prema, they go on following it. But that does not deserve the name ‘Prema’. Prema has only one path, only one goal. Prema is God, God is Prema. Live in love. Whoever fills the heart with Prema, they alone find fulfilment. “With a mind glad in Prema, say Rāma Rāma Rām...” Whatever name you remember, remember it with Prema. This sacred, fulfilling principle of Prema, which is one, you divide into many and go on following it so.

There must be no connection at all between Prema and the body

In hardship and in happiness alike, Prema must remain one. No differences at all must arise in it. In true Bhakti no differences at all are seen. I and you are one. There must be no difference of ‘you’ and ‘I’. ‘You’ belongs to the ‘second person’. ‘I’ is the principle of the one Ātma. Removing the difference of ‘you’ and ‘I’, you must follow purity and divinity. Such oneness has to be experienced through the principle of Prema; it cannot be taught. By Prema you understand worldly meanings. You make many changes to it. There must be no connection at all between Prema and the body.

The body is bound up with matter. Love connected with matter does not give us true Śānti. So we must cultivate the feeling of the one Ātma, keeping no connection at all with matter. You take your Prema along a worldly path. That is the great mistake you are making. Not the least feeling of duality must enter the principle of Prema.
