Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In this camp you have discussed the activities of the youth and their duties. Above all, you must make your life full of Prema. But the young men and women of today do not understand what Prema is.

Brahman is of the form of Prema, full of Prema; to join Prema with Prema becomes the discipline; so he who holds fast to Prema becomes worthy to attain the One without a second.

Prema of the one Ātma is true Prema. If hearts are separate, that is not Prema. One gives, another receives ... What carries such a feeling is not Prema. To give, at all times and in all circumstances, is the true principle of Prema. To draw back in a time of trouble is called selfish love. You must give up what serves yourself, embrace what serves others, and enter into Prema that is real.

You must recognise how great the difference is between padārtha and yathārtha. That which is bound up with ‘Matter’ is padārtha. What is beyond matter is yathārtha. First of all, you must know the truth that ‘All this is indeed Brahman.’ As it is said, ‘Sukha duḥkhe samekṛtvā lābhā lābhau jayā jayau’, you must hold to equanimity in joy and sorrow, in gain and loss. When you go along with the mind, only matter is visible to you. Between matter and you there must be no connection at all. So you must not form any connection with the mind. Where the mind enters, only difference arises; oneness is not seen.

To recognise oneness and act on it is the duty of devotees

What is bound up with duality and difference can never be Bhakti. Only what is bound up with oneness is Bhakti. In Bhakti there must not be two kinds of feeling. What is in you and what is in others is the one principle of Prema. To recognise that principle of Prema, that oneness, and to act on it is the chief duty of devotees.
