Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If you leave that undone and sit doing some japa or dhyāna or other, God will not appear to you. Even while you close your eyes and do japa or dhyāna, your ‘monkey mind’ keeps wandering this way and that. The mind alone gives rise to every quality! You do your sādhanas without recognising this truth. The principle of the five elements is itself divinity. In divinity there is nothing but Prema alone. Though so many are here, the principle of Prema in all of them is one. Worldly relationships may differ, but the divinity in all is one and the same. So all must live together in harmony, like sisters and brothers.

Well-being lies only in control of the senses

Today in many institutions of learning, girls and boys study together. They call it ‘co-education’. In such colleges the girl and boy students must behave like sisters and brothers. But the sense of difference, ‘women’ and ‘men’, must not come up among them. Anyone in whom such a sense of difference arises will fail. In what? In the Prema of the heart! Passing a worldly examination is no great thing. Everyone who studies passes. What use is it to fail in the Prema of the heart and pass the examination of the world? Only one who passes in divine Prema has succeeded in life. All are God's children. So all must go on living in harmony and affection, like brothers and sisters, loving one another, caring for one another and helping one another. At no time at all must anger or hatred arise in anyone against another. You must trample hatred down. You must control the senses. In that alone lies well-being. You know this: when the controls at a railway station do not work properly, trains go off the rails. In the same way, the mind is like the controller of all the powers and all the feelings in our body.
