In plain words

When his mother asked, “Why are you angry, my son?”, “Mother! Today, at the place where I went to graze the cattle, there is an enemy of mine. He sings just as I sing, and mocks me. I must punish him somehow,” he said. The next day the mother went along with the boy. Grasping what was happening there, she laughed to herself at the boy's innocence: “My son! There is no enemy of yours here. What you hear is only the echo of the song you sang,” she explained. All that we experience in this world is just like that! Only what we have done comes back to us; what we have not done cannot come. This is God's law. One who has Prema turns even hatred into Prema. To one without Prema, everyone appears only as an enemy. Prema and enmity alike are only creations of the mind!

Good and bad, the two, are joined together; to part them is in no one's power; nowhere shall we see the bad on its own...

The very feelings within you appear to you outside. Good or bad, they grow out of your own qualities; they are not something God hands you separately. God is nirguṇa, stainless and eternal. Only your feelings keep changing; in God there is no change at all. The very feelings within you come back to you as ‘reflection’, ‘reaction’ and ‘resound’. You get angry that someone looked at you and laughed. How do you know why he laughed?! One day ‘King Kong’, as soon as he rose at dawn, went out onto the road and was doing his exercise. A village woman was coming along with milk and curd to sell. King Kong mistakenly thought that she had looked at him and laughed. ‘What! You look at me and laugh?! Do you know who I am? Do you know how strong I am?’ he demanded angrily. Then she, calmly: “Sir! I did not laugh at you. You are a very strong man. You are able to stop even a car going at top speed with one hand. Strong as you are, you are losing your self-control over the mistaken idea that a woman looked at you and laughed.
