In plain words
We must not change, one way when hardship comes and another way when happiness comes. Only what is changeless is Prema. We must develop such Prema. Whatever is done, God Himself is doing it. It is all God's will; it is not your will at all. You keep thinking ‘I, I’, but that is merely your Ahaṅkāra. The doer is not you at all. Where, really, are ‘you’ apart? You are nowhere at all. Only the Ātma within you is doing it. So ‘you’ means your Ātma itself! Faith in the Ātma is the basis of everything.
If God so wills, anything can be done
When Jesus was nailed to the cross, Mother Mary came and wept a great deal. Then Jesus said, “Why are you weeping? This is natural. What has to happen will happen. So you must not shed tears.” He helped everyone in every way. Many times he gave bread to the fishermen. One day the fishermen did not catch even a single fish. Then Jesus said, ‘Peter! Take the net and come with me.’ After they had gone some distance, he said, ‘Cast it in this spot.’ Peter could not draw that net back in. Many people had to take hold of it together and haul it in. For it had filled with fish. In this way, if God so wills, anything can be done.
Bad lies within good, and good within bad
We must know that each and every thing is God's gift. If happiness comes, that is ‘God's gift’! If hardship comes, we must think, this is also God's gift. When you have malaria fever, they give you bitter pills. But that too is only for your good, is it not!
Good and bad stay joined together; it is in no one's power to pull them apart; nowhere shall we see the good apart...
