In plain words
She never answers back her husbands' many words; she never says she has no time to serve them; with what she has, she finds content; there is no pativratā to equal Draupadī.
Even Draupadī, so great a pativratā, met with so many hardships. In these times it is very hard for a wife to listen to her husband's word. That being so, Draupadī, who had five husbands, faithfully followed the words of all five. She went on serving them. ‘With what she has, she finds content.’ When the husband earns a salary of a hundred rupees, there are women too who stubbornly insist, ‘I want a two-hundred-rupee sari.’ But Draupadī was not like that. She stayed content with what she had. Through these three qualities Draupadī won fame as a great pativratā. The ones who rightly recognised the glory of her pātivratya and acted by it were the Pāṇḍavas. That is why, from that day to this, the name and fame of the Pāṇḍavas have endured for ever.
A man's honour depends a great deal even on the small things he does. In every man's karmas many faults keep arising. Whatever fault arises, there is no escaping its consequence. So this alone is man's duty: to speak Satya, walk by Dharma and live his life with Prema. A man without Satya, Dharma, Śānti, compassion and Prema is no better than a living corpse. Man must regard these five as his five prāṇas. We must not tell a lie even in fun. We must not ridicule anyone. To revile others is a great sin. ‘Is there any sin greater than reviling others?’ So we must not revile anyone, whoever they may be. We must love everyone. Prema itself is God, God Himself is Prema. Prema is life itself.
(Swami had the students sing the song ‘Love is My form, Truth is My breath…’)
Develop Prema. ‘Be it in the forests, in the sky, in a town, in a village, on a hilltop or fallen into midstream, wherever you are, your Prema itself will protect you. Love even your enemy. When he comes in sight, do not turn your face away. Greet him with Prema: ‘Hello brother, how are you?’ Lead your life with Prema, with courage, with enthusiasm. Only then will your humanness turn into divinity. We must teach everyone to develop Prema. That is the main message I give today. Tomorrow I will tell you still more important things.
