In plain words
Some do not even know how to speak kindly. If you lovingly ask, ‘Sir, where have you come from?’, they answer rudely, ‘I've come from somewhere’. Whatever word they speak, they speak harshly. The words a man speaks must be soft and sweet. We must speak gently, calmly and lovingly. Only then will we find Śānti. When our words and conduct are bad, how will we ever find Śānti! Śānti is not outside; it is within us. Outside there are only ‘pieces’, no ‘peace’. People keep saying, ‘I want Śānti, I want Śānti’. Conduct yourself well; Śānti will spring from you yourself. Where is Satya to be found? Is it found merely by reading books? No. Satya too is within you. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema, Ahiṃsā: these five are the natural qualities of man. Prema is the very form of God! God's Prema we can experience only through Prema itself. Above all, man needs both Prema and Śānti very much. Millionaires may build many bungalows; they may buy many cars. They may have many comforts. Yet whomever you ask, they say, ‘We have no Śānti’. When there is no Śānti, what use is it to have so much!
Six feet is all a man needs!
Recently a man paid forty crores for an acre of land. Whatever sort of man the seller may be, and whatever sort the buyer, it can be said that neither has any sense. These days everyone is adding to their lands. How much land is really needed? What a man needs is six feet. More than that is not needed. A zamindar wanted to gather still more land on top of what he had, and began searching for land. A man who knew of this came to him: “Sir! Go to the Himalayan region! There they will give you as much land as you want, free”, he said. Eager with desire, this man went to the Himalayan region and met the king there. The king said, “However much land you walk round from daybreak until evening, all that land I will give you free”.
