Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

God has given us this birth for this very purpose: that we sustain one another. Brothers, sisters …. What are such ties of kinship for? Not merely for sharing out property and possessions; they are for fostering Prema and sharing it. Sharing Prema is the very mark of true kinship. Where there is no Prema, all worldly ties of kinship are of no use. Those who are strong must go on supporting those who are weak. When we see people in trouble we must feel for them and try to wipe away their tears. This itself is compassion. This very compassion, it has been said, is Dharma. This itself, it has been said, is Prema. When we foster this Prema, we can gladden the world beyond measure. So foster Prema. When you see any of the poor, the sick or those in trouble, give them some help. If we go on supporting them, God will love us. In every human being God abides in the form of Prema. We must not waste this Prema. We must not misuse it. Today we let our Prema flow out just as we please. Loving objects, hating persons, straying onto wrong paths of every kind: this alone has brought us to this plight. Some show love to people outside but not to the parents in their own home. First we must show love to our parents at home, and then share love with the people outside. First ‘self’, then ‘help’. We must love not only our kin and friends but everyone. Then God will love us. When we see people who are suffering, or who wander the roads in distress, we must not leave them unheeded. However much work we have, we must try to relieve their suffering. Only then will God reveal Himself to us and give us the strength we need.

There is no one in this world with greater Prema than God. Whether we sing bhajans or do any other kind of service, it is only for God's Prema! When we love God, great strength comes to us.
