In plain words

‘Sai Gita’ showed the ideal to all

‘Sai Gita’ lost her mother only a few days after she was born. She gave up drinking milk and went on crying for her mother. Once, when I was coming from Mysore, all the forest officers there came: “Swami, you take her away. You alone will keep her alive,” they said. Then I smeared a little honey on My finger and put it in her mouth. She sucked at it contentedly. After coming to Bangalore, I poured milk into a bottle and went on giving it to her to drink. From then on she forgot her mother; she was always right at My side. When I went to the kitchen she would come, when I went to the dining hall she would come, when I went to the drawing room she would come; she would come to the bhajan as well. Wherever I went, she would come running there. From the time she came to Me, a close bond of kinship such as this grew up between her and Me. That is an inner bond. Her Prema is very great. She kept vratas of many kinds.

At one time Jōgārāvu sent her to the Mudumalai forest in Bandipur, wanting her to have a calf. There he had her placed in the middle of where the male elephants lived. But Sai Gita did not let a single one come close to her; she did not greet anyone even with her trunk. If some male elephant tried to come near her, she would trumpet loudly and not let him come near. She was a pure brahmacāriṇī. She lived that way all her life. Truly, no one can live as Sai Gita lived. Sai Gita showed the ideal to all.
