In plain words
‘Unity’ is our very nature! The more we think, ‘I am separate, this one is separate, that one is separate’, the farther ‘divinity’ goes from us. Think that you, he and this one, all together, are one! You say, ‘This is my father, this is my mother, this is my sister.’ All these relationships are formed only at the physical level; in truth no one is your father, no one your mother, no one your sister. Because of marriage they are called ‘husband and wife’; otherwise, who is the wife? Who is the husband? All these are of your own making! Yet so long as that relationship lasts, you must follow it and do your duty. And in it too you must not hurt anyone. You must not beat her or abuse her because she is your wife. When some fault occurs, you may say, “This fault is in you.” But to abuse them or beat them is demonic!
Regard these two, Satya and Prema, as your two eyes
Children! You have come with so much Prema. Fill your hearts with Prema. Whatever the matter, speak only the truth. As we go on speaking the truth, some obstacles will come our way. No matter how many come, never mind; even if you lose your head, never mind; speak only the truth. Only then will victory come to us. A small incident: once in Bengaluru a thief snatched a woman’s ‘gold chain’ and ran off. Later the thief was caught. The policeman showed her the chain and asked, “Is this yours, mother?” She said, “It is mine.” He asked, “How many rings does it have?” She said, “Oh, I never counted the rings, my son!” “Don’t you know how many rings there are in the chain you wear round your neck every day? Then it is not yours,” he said. Then she: “Sir, you shave your beard every day, don’t you! Then can you tell me how many hairs there are in your beard?” she asked. “In the same way, I wear this chain round my neck every day. But I have never looked to see how many rings it has,” she said. She was not afraid; she told only the truth. So he gave the chain back to her. So we must never be afraid where truth is concerned.
