In plain words

Hariścandra, who ruled the earth in the full strength of truth, did he not leave this earth and go? Śrī Nala, who ruled all the worlds and shone, did he take the earth along with him when he went? Māndhātā, who adorned the Kṛta age, did he go with his riches tied up in a bundle? Śrī Rāma of old, who bridged the ocean, is he on the earth now? How many, many kings have gone! Not one took the earth along with him. Will you alone carry away your kingdom and your pleasures tied up on your head, O righteous heart!

Can you alone tie up your property and your bank balance in a bundle and take them with you? When man was born, he brought nothing with him. Everything comes along the way and goes! None of it is something you brought, none of it was born with you. When none of it is yours, whether things or ‘property’ or bank balance, why grieve over it, fearing it may be lost? Why suffer so much over goods and vehicles and the like, which are physical, fleeting and impermanent? You were not born as human beings to shed tears; even when you go, you must go happily.
