In plain words
Able to teach their lessons even to the ancient ṛṣis, minds that hold the very essence of Vedānta; able to make lifeless stones dance, artists rich in skill; tossing the heads of enemy heroes like balls, men of keen edge who could make sport of it; leaders able to rule the whole circle of the earth and guide it on its way: in the land of Bhārata today there are many such. But what fruit is there in their being here, if not one among them the cry of distress that rises day after day thinks to hear? O noble ones!
Our Bhārata is the motherland that gave birth to great souls whose fame spread from land to land and continent to continent. It was the people of Bhārata who drove out the Western warriors and won their freedom. It was the people of Bhārata who opened the secrets of the Vedas, the Śāstras and the Purāṇas and explained them to the peoples of other lands. Today those same people of Bhārata have wholly forgotten the spiritual principle and are going to ruin in every way. The Veda taught, “Revere your mother as God, revere your father as God, revere your teacher as God, revere your guest as God.” It said, “Speak Satya; walk in Dharma.” But today these are nowhere to be seen and nowhere to be heard.
