Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

This is not humanness. Humanness is divinity that holds no desires at all.

Embodiments of Prema! Wherever we look in this world, Śānti is not to be seen. Where, after all, is Śānti? The place of Śānti is not some place outside. Śānti is within us; it is in our speech; it is in our heart. However many japas, tapas, yogas, yāgas and yajñas we perform, Śānti is not caught in them. First of all we must cool our heart. Today, wherever you look in the world, there is quarrelling, nothing but quarrelling! Even between the closest of friends a quarrel breaks out over some small matter. A true friend is nowhere to be found in the world. The cause of these quarrels is the bad qualities in the heart of man! Our heart must be pure. We must see that not even a speck of dirt the size of an ant or a fly settles in it.

One who has no moral values is a demon in human form

Man earns a great deal of money. But what is this money for? What does he take with him when he goes? Nothing. He goes with empty hands; he goes leaving even his body behind. The five elements go back into the five elements; the body, like an empty leather bag, is set on fire and burnt. So it is not good to strut about in pride, looking at your body and your money. Money comes and goes, morality comes and grows. So we must make our moral values grow. However learned he may be, one who has no moral values is not a man at all: he is a demon in human form! We must honour our elders. We must show gratitude to our mother and father. But no such gratitude, no such feeling of honour, is to be seen in man. The man of today does not love his mother, nor does he love his father. He loves no one. “Why should I honour these people? Why should I love them?”: that is how he thinks.
