Question 4: How should a teacher strive to become a model in human values?

This, above all, is very important. The teacher must behave properly with the students. Only then will the students too follow him. Whatever the teacher tells the students not to do, he himself must not do. Not only that: whatever food he tells the students to eat, that very food he too must eat. If he tells the students, “You must not eat meat and fish,” and goes on eating them himself, how will the children follow his words! What he tells the children he must first practise himself and show them. He must not behave arrogantly and as he likes, thinking, ‘I am the teacher, after all.’ With the children he must be modest, watchful, humble and loving.

Now, if there are only boys in the class it does not matter, but when there are girls as well, the teacher must behave with still more care and propriety. He must regard the girls as his sisters. Just as he respects his own sisters and keeps them happy, so he must keep these girls happy too. Only then does he become one who has taught them good character as well. In this way, leading an exemplary life himself, he must teach the students.

Question 5: How should we get parents to take part in their children's education?

Above all, whatever they teach the children, the parents too must go on following. Only then will the children turn out good. Parents must not discuss household matters at all in front of the children. Besides, they must not let the children know at all of the troubles they have or of their money difficulties. They must keep these within their own minds and try to spread joy among the children. They must bring them on to progress in the right way. Without being told by the children, the parents themselves must show them the right path.
