Passage 8

In plain words

Merely eating and roaming about: that is the work animals do. Doing violence is the mark of a wild beast. You are not wild beasts, you are not animals; you are human beings. So you must develop human qualities. The human qualities are Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā. For Ahiṃsā to arise, first Prema must be born in us. When does Prema come? Prema comes only when it is joined with Śānti. Only when there are Satya and Dharma does Śānti come. If there is no Satya at all, there is no Śānti whatever. So, if you join both Satya and Dharma together, Śānti arises within you. Without Satya and Dharma there is no ‘peace’; it is all ‘pieces, pieces’! So you must nurture those two. We must protect Prema with Satya. Satya is not something anyone has made. It is our ‘inner self’. There is no human being in the world without this Satya. But man covers up the Satya within him and turns to untruth. He thinks about untruth, but he does not think about Satya.

If we keep the ‘Chief’ (God) in the heart, we have no eye for ‘cheap’ things

You must have seen many dramas, and acted in them, on the principle of Prema between Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, between Sītā and Rāma. Though she stayed ten months in Laṅkā, Sītā did not once raise her head to look at Rāvaṇa. When Rāvaṇa spoke slightingly of Rāma, she plucked a blade of grass, threw it down before him and said, ‘Compared with Rāma's strength and Rāma's Prema, your strength is like this blade of grass.’ Sītā had such firm faith. We too must develop such firm faith. Today, in the world, so many terrorists turn to violence. But when you put your faith in the Ātma in your heart and live in the Prema of the Ātma, no one can do anything to you.
