It is the teachers' duty to guard the health of the children's bodies and minds
Today's system of education, at enormous cost, has forgotten moral training. In the ancient gurukula they taught spiritual and dhārmic training together with moral training. Humility, control of the senses, good character and courtesy were the training of students in those days. Today those virtues are not seen. What control of the senses means is not known. From childhood it is roaming at will, craving of the senses, materialism. That is why one is afraid to look at the colleges. The health officer of Calcutta found that in Calcutta University eighty in a hundred, that is 80 percent, of the children were declining in health. In the Bombay region they reported that the health of students was failing in ninety in a hundred, that is 90 percent. What is the reason for this? Becoming slaves of the senses. Roaming at will beyond all limit: it is the very essence of vice. Are these the fruits of Vidyā? Or the property of Avidyā? The readers may decide.
