Passage 6

In plain words

A man without discernment is blind

One must see the difference between a good thing and a thing better still. If, not knowing that difference, one sits blindly holding on to the good thing, the better thing does not become its enemy merely by that. Just as without ‘adharma’ the right experience of ‘Dharma’ is not striven for, so without ‘suffering’ ‘compassion’ is not striven for. Suffering is the inescapable seed of compassion. Without these two, suffering and adharma, man would have stayed a mere dwarf without pity. A man without discernment is blind. Vidyā proclaims, ‘He who takes good for bad and bad for good is a person without discernment.’
