Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The first thing the jīva must do is strive for release from bondage

From time without beginning the jīva has been caught in this bondage of saṃsāra, in the form of birth and death, and is not free. Not to strive for release from such an atmosphere of dependence, but to run after luxuries, is sheer ignorance. The first thing those in bondage must do is strive for release from bondage. This is the main thing. The rest is secondary. But today people forget the main thing and are lost in the secondary. One must keep remembering again and again that “I am the Ātma alone and not the aggregate of the body and the rest.”
