In plain words
A Vidyā that makes Bhakti and surrender flourish is urgently needed
If water is poured at the root of a tree, the tree spreads into branches and twigs and gives flowers and fruit; but if that water is poured on the branches, the fruit and the flowers, will the tree grow? In the same way, human society without ‘Bhakti’, its root cause, cannot live either. So it is urgently needed to act so that the teachings of Bhakti and surrender flourish among the people. Officers: adhika + ari = adhikāri. That is, one must serve the people as an officer, without becoming a greater enemy. In any place where the people lacked peace of mind, happiness and contentment, the ancients used to think there was some fault in the modes of worship in the temples there. Believing that if such faults existed and were found and set right, those evils would at once be checked, they made many efforts and brought about purity of citta. Today such things are bundled up as superstitions and pushed aside. These are not superstitions at all. The modern learned are in the sorry state of being unable to grasp such central problems. This is the first stage of the corruption that has grown in modern education. Most people cannot recognise the truth that barbarism grows precisely in the moderns' throwing away the supreme truth that the ancients experienced and grasped for themselves in everything.
