Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In the Western way of speaking, what a man gives up is the soul. In the speech of the people of Bhārat, what a man gives up is ‘the body’. Westerners think that they are a body and that they have a soul. The people of Bhārat think otherwise: that man is of the nature of the Ātma and that he has a body. Between the two the difference is boundless. So all civilisations built on the sand foundations of physical pleasure stand for a little while only, and then disappear.
