In plain words
As the saying goes, “A leaf plate served full lies still and low; an empty leaf plate jumps and leaps about”: a person with every means and every ability lives simply. A person with no strength, who does not know what Vidyā is, spends his life in ostentation. More than that, he struggles to live so that his lack is never exposed. In the end the fruit is nothing. He becomes the washerman ruined on both banks. He neither enjoys Ānanda himself nor gives it to others, and becomes a laughing-stock.
