In plain words
16. The marks of the ideal student
An equal vision is an auspicious vision
The student must have kindness, compassion and Prema towards all living beings. ‘Kindness to all beings’ is the student's second quality. Without this quality he becomes uneducated. ‘Kindness to all beings’ is the chief meaning of Vidyā. One must act in this very sense. If one has hatred for living creatures, such learning has no meaning. This is the meaning of “adveṣṭā sarvabhūtānām” in the Gītā. “Sarvajīva tiraskāraṃ keśavaṃ pratigacchati.” The Gītā teaches again and again that to reject or hurt any creature is to reject God, to hurt God. The divine qualities of Prema and kindness must not be limited to human beings alone but extended to all living beings.
