In plain words
Gurus must teach with lofty feelings and a spirit of sacrifice
Among students too, unity is not well seen today. Good feelings and good company are few. As the king, so the subjects; as the gurus are, so the disciples are becoming. So gurus must make themselves people who teach with lofty feelings and a spirit of sacrifice. One who knows physical science well may not know zoology. But is there no room for the two of them to be on close terms? Whatever science one learns, there is the opportunity and the need to learn with it the knowledge that serves others and the knowledge of the supreme goal. The other day, when I went to the atomic research centre in Bombay, I explained what “energy” is. There is “energy” in every substance. It is in paper; it is in cloth. Through losing ‘energy’, death; through gaining energy, birth. This is what is called “Sat, Cit, Ānanda”. We: Sat; are: Cit; in Ānanda: that is the third; that is divinity, the basis of all. The basis of all is divinity, the spiritual. Today we neglect humanity, which rests on that basis. We do not keep in mind at all the divinity that is the basis. To feed the belly, we cling to a few subjects that come along in between. Our aim is ‘the small truth’. Divinity, the basis, is ‘the hard truth’. Men must either understand the great truth or at least keep the small truth in mind. Between these two lies the whole meaning of our Vidyā.
