(Tai tai…) In the mother's womb, amid filth and urine, while you wailed in that loathsomeness, these people, delighted, hold festive gatherings; what a wonder this is! (Tai tai…) 'I am born; I have lost my wits; into a wretched lot I am born,' so I wept; and laughing away, they make merry; who are such people to you, sir? (Tai tai…) In grime, smeared with filth and urine, moving about without a word of shame, a little babe, crying and getting up, do you not play a new drama every day? (Tai tai…) Joining in play with your companions, learning many arts with delight, with a charm wondrous to behold, year by year you grow, O puppet! (Tai tai…) As wife, as husband, in fond feeling, pairing up on the stage of saṃsāra, with great eagerness, 'than this there is nothing else,' so you played! (Tai tai…) Joining doll to doll, many dolls does Lord Brahmā make; believing them all to be yours, you go 'thiṃ thiṃ' and dance along with them! (Tai tai…) When you gather wealth, when you hoard it, when you make it grow, and when it goes, with your body and with your mind, can anyone count the steps of your tāṇḍava? (Tai tai…) With lust and anger as the stout sticks, with tamas as the nose-ropes, with woman and gold holding you in hand, you caper about like the decorated performing bulls! (Tai tai…) Thinking your will prevails, to those who bow to you to bring trouble: is that a joy? If so much as a fly's leg goes awry, your fate is but tai taka, is it not! (Tai tai…) Glaring, waving your arms, like a corpse that knows nothing of its body, shouting and leaping while everyone laughs, when the ghost called rage has seized you! (Tai tai…) Forgetting what learning is for, running about to fill the belly, weeping, unable to bear another's greatness, harried and harassed, you puppet of learning! (Tai tai…) Thinking your wicked desire was fulfilled in secret, do not smack your lips, brother! Citragupta, who writes up the ledger: his eyes, how will you blindfold them? (Tai tai…) Beauty, youth, the strength of the senses: do not strut because you have them, brother! There lies ahead of you, and soon, the crocodiles' feast called old age! (Tai tai…) You cannot move about; your eyes grow dim; on your face wrinkles have fallen; your hair has turned grey; and when little children, calling you 'old monkey', snigger at you, you snap at them, you puppet! (Tai tai…) Until death, in the cares of saṃsāra, has any gain come to you but rotten gain? There, to bar your torments at Yama's hands, what will come forward, you poor madman? (Tai tai…) When with a whirr the bird called the jīva flies off from the wicker doll, this wooden doll, stretched out stiff, they seize it and drag it out at a stroke! (Tai tai…) For the body born of the five elements the return to the five surely comes! Deceived, calling it 'mine', for its sake you fill with longing and grieve, O jīva! (Tai tai…) All your kinsmen, as far as the door and to the burning ground, will come; the one who cuts away bondage and never leaves you, the kinsman in calamity, is the Name of the Lord! (Tai tai…) Do not trust the body to be eternal; it is a coracle that sinks you in mid-stream; in the space of a sneeze it topples, this leather puppet with nine holes! (Tai tai…) In calamities and in comforts, in full measure, weeping and laughing, in keeping with that Parameśvara's command, you play out pleasure and pain, O puppet! (Tai tai…) Taking up the strings of Dharma and karma, you God Himself makes dance; not knowing the secret, you call it Māyā, you jointed puppet in Mādhava's hand! (Tai tai…) Down the generations it appears firmly fixed, subjecting you to the direst straits; the very next minute it falls out of sight, the Māyā puppet the Paramātma has made! (Tai tai…) As tree, as anthill, as ant, as gnat, as parrot and as python, being born, dying, and buffeted about, O karma-bound jīva, who never seeks the shore! (Tai tai…) Rarely is this human birth obtained; do not waste even half a moment of it; know the way, go, behold the Paramātma, and gain lasting happiness, O anxious jīva! (Tai tai…) By your good fortune, as Sai Kṛṣṇa, that Lord of all has appeared; at ease, seeking Sathya Sai in the Ātma, know yourself by yourself! (Tai tai…) Though you speak a crore of fine words, your belly will not be filled one bit; only when you see the light of the Ātma directly will your play come to its rest, sir! (Tai tai…) This futile, foolish, rambling tale of yours: hear it, and give up ignorance, O jīva; the meaningful burrakatha of Sathya Sai behold, and take hold of Prajñāna, brother! (Tai tai…)
