What duty, wealth and desire are for· Verses 8–10

8If a man's duty, however well carried out, does not bring him to take pleasure in the accounts of Visvaksena, it is labour and nothing more. 9The purpose of a dharma that leads to release is not wealth; nor, for wealth that serves dharma alone, is desire held to be the gain. 10The gain of desire is not the pleasure of the senses, but only so much as one may live by. For a living being the purpose is to want to know what is real, and not what is got here by work.
