13When in the battle of the Kurus and the Srnjayas the heroes had gone the way of heroes, and Dhrtarastra's son lay with his thigh-bone broken by the blow of Vrkodara's mace, 14Drona's son, thinking it would please his master, brought him the heads of Draupadi's sons as they slept: an act that was no pleasure to him at all, and one that men condemn. 15Their mother, hearing of the dreadful killing of her boys, her sons, burned with it and wept, her eyes brimming and troubled; and he of the diadem and garland spoke to her, comforting her. 16Good lady, I shall wipe away your grief then, when I bring you the head of that disgrace to the brahmanas, that assassin, cut off by arrows loosed from the Gandiva; and you shall step upon it and bathe, you whose sons were burned.
17So comforting his dear one with words winning and various, he whose friend and charioteer was the Unfallen put on his armour, took up his fierce bow, and drove after the teacher's son with his chariot, the ape upon his banner.
