Why they say he came· Verses 32–36

Some say the unborn was born for the fame of him whose verses are holy, in the line of Yadu whom he loves, as sandal is born of Malaya. Others say that, asked by Vasudeva, he came in Devaki: you, the unborn, for the safety of this world and for the killing of those who hate the gods. Others, that it was for the taking down of the earth's burden, of her who sinks like a boat at sea under her great weight, that you were born, asked for by the Self-born. And some, that for those who suffer in this becoming through ignorance and desire and works, you would make things worth the hearing and worth the remembering. People hear, and sing, and utter again and again, and remember, and take joy in your doings. Those same, before long, see your lotus feet, which are the stilling of the current of becoming.
