1Having killed those aggressors who contended for his own inheritance, how did Yudhisthira conduct himself, the foremost of the upholders of dharma, whose eating had been kept from him along with his younger brothers? What did he do then? 2Having made the line of Kuru grow again after the forest fire of that line had carried it off, and having settled Yudhisthira in his own kingdom, Hari, who brings the world into being, the Lord, was pleased at heart. 3Having heard what Bhisma spoke and then what the Unfallen spoke, his bewilderment shaken off by the understanding that had arisen, he ruled the earth to the edge of its encircling waters, like Indra, taking shelter in the Unconquered, and followed by his younger brothers.
4The rain-god rained as was wished, the earth yielded every wish, and the cows, their udders full, gladly wetted the cattle stations with milk. 5Rivers and seas and hills, with their trees and creepers, and all the plants, bore their yield at his wish, each in its own season. 6While that king to whom no enemy had been born was ruling, no troubles of mind, no diseases and no afflictions ever came upon creatures, whether from fate, from other beings, or from themselves.
