7Hari stayed on some months in Hastinapura, to take the sorrow from his friends and to give pleasure to his sister. 8Then, having asked leave and been given it, having embraced him and saluted him, he mounted his chariot, being himself embraced and saluted by some. 9Subhadra, Draupadi, Kunti, and the daughter of Virata as well; Gandhari and Dhrtarastra, Yuyutsu, Gautama, the twins, 10and Vrkodara and Dhaumya, and the women with the daughter of Matsya among them, could not bear the parting from him who carries the Sarnga bow, and were bewildered by it. 11A wise man, freed of bad company by the company of the good, cannot bring himself to leave that glory once he has heard it sung, so pleasing is it.
12How then could the sons of Prtha bear the parting, whose minds were laid upon him, and who had shared with him the seeing and the touching, the talk, the lying down, the sitting and the eating? 13All of them, their minds running after him, gazed with eyes that did not blink, bound to him by affection, and moved about this way and that. 14The women of the household held back the tears that rose from longing as the son of Devaki went out from the house, thinking, may no ill come to us.
