Hearing that the dearest one was coming, Vasudeva of great mind, and Akrura and Ugrasena, and Rama of wonderful valour, and Pradyumna and Carudesna, and Samba the son of Jambavati, rose from bed and seat and meal, roused by the rush of their delight. Setting the lord of elephants before them, with brahmanas carrying the auspicious things, honoured by the sound of conches and trumpets and by the chanting of the Veda, they went out gladly by chariot to meet him, their eagerness shot through with awe. And courtesans by the hundred came in their carriages, longing for the sight of him, the beauty of their faces and cheeks lit by their swinging earrings.

Players and dancers and gandharvas, bards and heralds and reciters, sing out too the deeds of him whose renown is highest, and the wonderful things.
