Dhrtarastra, with his brother and with Gandhari his wife, has gone by the south of the Himalaya to the hermitage of the sages. They call it Saptasrotas, where the heavenly river made herself sevenfold in seven streams, for the pleasure of the seven, each apart. Bathing there at each of the three times and offering into the fires as is prescribed, taking water for his food, his self quieted, he stays there with his cravings gone. Having mastered his sitting and his breath, having drawn the six senses back, the stain of passion and clarity and darkness struck away by his dwelling upon Hari; joining the self to the self of understanding and dissolving that into the knower of the field, and the self into Brahman that upholds it, as the space within a jar is dissolved into space;

the aftergrowth of maya's strands struck away, his organs and his mind held in, having turned back from all food, he sits unmoving like a post. Do not you be a hindrance to him, who has laid down every action. King, on the fifth day from today he will let go of his own body, and it will become ash. While her husband's body is burning in the fires together with the hut, the true wife, standing outside, will follow her husband into that fire. Joy of the Kurus, Vidura, seeing that wonder, will go from there, filled with gladness and with grief together, to attend upon the holy fords. Having said this, Narada with Tumburu rose to heaven; and Yudhisthira, setting his words in his heart, let his grief go.
