41He offered speech into mind, and that into the breath, and the rest into it; the outbreath together with the letting-go he offered into death, and that into the five. 42The sage offered the five into the three, and that into the one; and he offered all into the self, and the self into Brahman, which is unspent. 43Clothed in rags, taking no food, with speech bound and hair loosed, showing a form of himself like a dullard's or a madman's or a ghost's, 44looking at nothing he went out, not hearing, as though deaf; and he entered the northern quarter, gone to before him by the great-souled, meditating in the heart on the supreme Brahman, whence one who goes does not return.
