When Pariksit was living in the Kuru forest country and heard the not very welcome news that Kali had entered the realm he ruled, he then took up his bow, being a lover of battle. Mounting a well-adorned chariot yoked with dark horses, bearing the lion on its banner, he went out from the city with his own army of chariots and horses and elephants and foot, for the conquest of the quarters. Having conquered Bhadrasva and Ketumala and Bharata and the northern Kurus, and the regions beginning with Kimpurusa, he took their tribute.
