Do not weep, mother· Verses 9–11

।

।

।

Son of Surabhi, do not grieve; let your fear of this low man go. Mother, do not weep. May it go well with you, while I am here to hold the wicked down. Good woman, in whose kingdom all the people are made to tremble by the wicked, that king is drunk, and his fame and his years and his fortune and the way he must go hereafter are all lost. This is the highest duty of kings: to put down the distress of those in distress. So I shall kill this man, who does harm to living things and is the worst of the worthless.
