There came sages of great power, who make the world clean, and their pupils with them, mostly on the pretext of going to the holy fords; for the good make the fords themselves clean. Atri, Vasistha, Cyavana, Saradvan, Aristanemi, Bhrgu and Angiras, Parasara, the son of Gadhi, then Rama, Utathya, Indrapramada and Idhmavaha, Medhatithi, Devala, Arstisena, Bharadvaja, Gautama, Pippalada, Maitreya, Aurva, Kavasa, the pot-born, Dvaipayana, and the revered Narada. And others besides: the best of the sages among the gods and of the great sages, and the best of the royal sages, Aruna and the rest. The king honoured them all, foremost men of many lines, gathered there, and bowed his head to them.
