Shame is his upper lip and greed his lower; dharma his breast and the road of wrongdoing his back; Ka is his organ of begetting and the two Mitras his testicles; the seas are his belly, and the mountains the frames of his bones. The rivers are his veins, lord of kings, and the trees the hairs upon the body of him whose body is the universe; the wind is the breathing of him whose strength has no end; time is his gait, and his action is the flowing of the strands. The rain clouds they know for the hair of the Lord; twilight for the garment of the boundless one, best of the Kurus; the unmanifest, they say, is his heart, and the moon his mind, which is the store of every change.

The power of discernment they call the great principle; the inner instrument of him who is the self of all is Giritra; horses and mules and camels and elephants are his nails; and all the deer and the beasts are about his hips. The birds are his showing-forth in its many kinds; Manu his thinking; man his dwelling place; the gandharvas and vidyadharas and caranas and apsarases his memory of the notes of music; and the ranks of the asuras his might.
