Nothing touches him but his own maya· Verses 1–4

King, apart from his own maya there could be no real tie with things for the supreme one, whose nature is awareness itself, any more than there is for a man seeing a dream. By maya, who takes many forms, he shines as though he had many forms; and one who takes his pleasure in her strands thinks: I, and mine. But when a man takes his pleasure in his own greatness, which stands beyond both time and maya, his bewilderment gone, then he lets the two of them go and sits apart. For the cleansing of the truth of the self, the Bhagavan spoke what is true to Brahma, showing him his form, honouring him for a vow kept without any pretence.
