6When the king, his sight destroyed, nursing his own wicked sons against all right, sent the sons of his youngest brother, who had no one to protect them, into the house of lac and burned it; 7when in the assembly the king would not stop his son's shameful deed, the laying of hands on the hair of the queen of the Kuru lords, his own son's wife, whose tears were washing the saffron from her breast; 8when, given over to darkness, he would not hand over the share agreed on to him to whom no enemy is born, though he asked for it, that good man who leans on truth, cheated at dice and gone to the forest; 9and when Krsna, teacher of the world, sent by the son of Prtha, spoke in that assembly, the king made little of his words, though they are a road to the deathless for men, the last shred of his merit being cut away;
10then, called in and come into the house, and asked for counsel by his elder brother, that best of those who see clearly in counsel said what counsellors still call the counsel of Vidura. 11Give back his share to him to whom no enemy is born, who has borne an offence of yours past bearing. With him stand his younger brothers, and among them the snake Vrkodara, hissing with anger, of whom you are rightly afraid.
