Then, going on past prosperous Surastra, and Sauvira and the Matsyas and the lands of the Kuru wilderness, he came in time to the Yamuna, and there he saw Uddhava, one of the Lord's own. He held that calm follower of Vasudeva close in his arms with love, the man known once as Brhaspati's pupil, and asked how it went with his own people, who are the Bhagavan's. Are the two ancient Persons well, who came down here, they say, at the asking of the lotus from his own navel? Having set the earth right and taken their leisure, are they well in the house of Sura? Is he well and happy, dear one, the best friend of the Kurus, our kinsman by marriage, the son of Sura, who gives to his sisters as a father would, open-handed, satisfying them with whatever they ask?

Is Pradyumna well, dear one, that hero, commander of the Yadus' companies, whom Rukmini won from the Bhagavan by pleasing the brahmins, and who was Love himself in the first creation? Is he well, the head of the Satvatas and the Vrsnis and the Bhojas and the Dasarhas, whom the lotus-eyed one anointed after putting far away from himself any wish for a king's seat?
