Those whose inner mind is carried off by eyes given over to what is not real, highest Lord, do not see them at all, you who are widely sung: those feet, and the splendour of the grace of their setting down. But those who by drinking the nectar of your story, god, with devotion grown full and with a clear heart, come by the very substance of detachment and by waking, go straight to that place which is never blunted. And others, steady men, having conquered nature at her strongest by the strength of yoga and the gathering of the self, enter you, the Person, and no other. Theirs is hard labour; there is none in serving you.

So we, sent out by you today with your three selves out of your wish to make the worlds, all stand apart from one another, and we cannot put together for you the working of your own play. Unborn one, tell us how we are to bring you tribute at the right time, and how and where we ourselves are to eat, so that these worlds of both kinds may bring tribute and eat their food without having to work it out. For us gods and our lines you are the one who stands unmoved, the first Person, the ancient. You, god, unborn, laid your seed, the seer, in the unborn power that is the womb of the strands and of works. Then we came into being, and I at the head of them, and for what, self? What are we to do for you? Give us your own eye, god, and the power with it, for the doing of the work, and that will be your kindness to us.
