Ksatta, who would dare to set out this rising of the strength of the Bhagavan's yogamaya, whose form is god and work and self? Still I shall tell it, friend, as far as my mind goes and as I have heard it, to do honour to Hari's fame, and to set right my own speech, which is untrue when it names anything else. They call the one sure gain of men's speech the telling of the qualities of him whose crown is holy verse; and the gain of hearing, the joining of it to that nectar of story which the learned have set out. The greatness of the self was made out, child, by the first seer, at the end of a thousand years, with a mind ripened by yoga.

So the maya of the Bhagavan bewilders even those who make maya; for the self does not itself know its own road, and what then of the rest? From whom words turn back with the mind, not having reached him: to that Bhagavan, from me and from these other gods, salutation.
