The man in between· Verses 17–20

The dullest man in the world and the man who has gone beyond the understanding both thrive in comfort. It is the one in between who suffers. Having settled that what appears has no reality and does not belong to the self, I push even that settling away by serving at your feet. By that service there comes a keen love and a taste for the feet of the Bhagavan, the unmoved, the enemy of Madhu, which grinds distress away. For a man of little austerity that service is hard to come by, on the roads to Vaikuntha, where the god of gods, Janardana, is sung of always.
