There, finding Pracetas, the guardian of the demons' world, the bull among the hosts of the waters, he smiled and, bowing low as a menial does, said in mockery: give me battle, sovereign lord. You are a guardian of the worlds, a sovereign of great renown, who takes the strength from those who fancy themselves heroes in their mad pride; for having conquered all the Daityas and Danavas in the world, you once sacrificed with the Rajasuya, lord. So mocked outright by that enemy swollen with pride, the revered lord of the waters quieted by his own understanding the anger that rose in him, and said: dear one, we have come to a life of quiet.

I see none but the ancient Person who could satisfy you in battle, skilled as you are in the ways of war. Bull among the demons, go to him, of whom strong-minded ones like yourself speak. Coming up to that hero, your pride gone, you will lie upon the hero's bed with dogs about you: he who takes on forms for the quieting of the wicked such as you, out of a wish to favour the good.
