1Hearing what the lord of the waters said, that great-minded one in his bad pride made nothing of it; and learning from Narada where Hari had gone, he went down in haste into Rasatala. 2There he saw the unconquered one, the holder of the earth, lifting her up on the point of his tusk, robbing him of his own brightness with the red splendour of his eye. And he laughed: A beast that ranges in the woods! 3He said to him: Come here, fool, and let go of the earth. She was handed over to us who live in the depths by the world's maker. You will not get away safe with her while I watch, you lowest of gods in your borrowed pig's shape.
4Were you kept by our rivals to bring us to nothing, you who kill the demons by maya and win out of sight? Your strength is yogamaya and your manhood is small. Once I have laid you out, fool, I shall wipe away the tears of my friends. 5When you are laid out and your head split by the mace let fly from my arm, the sages and the gods who carry offerings to you will all of themselves cease to be, cut off from their root.
