The seat, and the breath· Verses 8–12

In a clean place let him set up a seat, having mastered sitting, and let him practise there, seated well and his body held straight. Let him clear the road of the breath by filling, by holding and by letting go, or in the reverse order, so that his thought grows steady and does not waver. For one who holds to yoga and has mastered his breathing, the mind is soon free of dust, as iron blown on by wind and fire gives up its stain. By the restraints of breath let him burn out his faults, by the holdings his taints, by the drawing back his entanglements, and by meditation the strands that are not the Lord's. When his own mind is free of dust and well gathered by yoga, let him meditate on the summit that is the Bhagavan, his gaze on the tip of his own nose.
