1The marks of the great principle and the rest, of nature and of the Person, by which the true form of these is made out, and that in them which is highest truth, 2as it has been told in the enumerations, which they call the root of it: now tell me at length, my lord, the road of the yoga of devotion. 3Bhagavan, the road by which a person comes to be turned away from everything. And tell me the many rounds of birth in the world of the living. 4And tell me the true form of time, which is the form of the Lord, you who are beyond those who are beyond: for it is time that makes people do what is right. 5The world has a false idea of itself and no eyes to see; it has slept a long while in a darkness with nothing to rest on, worn out, its understanding pierced through with works. And you have shown yourself to it, a sun of yoga.
