The burning of his own limbs, wrapped about first with firebrands and the like; and in one place the eating of his own flesh, cut off by himself or else by another. The drawing out of his entrails while he is still alive, by dogs and vultures, in Yama's house; and the tearing of him by snakes and scorpions and stinging flies and whatever else bites. The cutting of him apart limb by limb, the being torn by elephants and the rest, the throwing down from mountain peaks, the shutting up in water and in pits. The torments called Darkness, and Blind Darkness, and the Howling Place, and the others: a man undergoes them, or a woman, and they were made by the two of them clinging together.

Mother, there are those who say that hell and heaven are right here; and indeed the torments that belong to hell can be made out here too.
