Sati said: Just now, they say, your father-in-law the lord of creatures has set going a great festival of sacrifice. Let us go there as well, my fair one, if you would like it, for see, the gods are on their way. My sisters will surely go there with their own husbands, longing to see their people. And I too would go with you, and wear the ornaments brought out for us there. There, with a mind long yearning, I shall see my sisters and my mother's sisters matched with their husbands, and my mother whose heart is soft, and the banner of the sacrifice, gracious one, raised up by the great sages. In you this wonder shines out, made of the three strands, fashioned by the maya of the unborn self. Yet I am a woman and do not know you; poor as I am, Bhava, I long to look on the land where I was born.

Look at them going, even women who are not wives of yours, Bhava, decked out, in troops with their lovers beside them, their sky-chariots pale as wild geese adorning the sky as they pass, blue-throated one. Best of the gods, how should a daughter's body not stir when she hears of a merrymaking at her father's house? Even uninvited, out of affection, people go to the home of a husband, a teacher, or the one who made their body. So be kind to me. Undying one, being merciful, you should surely do this thing I wish. You whose sight is not small have set me in the half of your own body; I ask, and I ask you to grant it.
