When she came there, no one made anything of her; the people slighted her for fear of the man who was holding the sacrifice. Only her sisters and her mother, their throats choked with tears of love, embraced her gladly and with respect. Her mother and her mother's sisters greeted her with the questions sisters ask, and offered her honour and a good seat; but Sati would not take them, since her father had given her no word of welcome.
